Best Management Practices Implemented 2019-2022
Mission: The mission of the Schuyler County SWCD is to conserve and enhance the natural resources of Schuyler County through education, planning and implementation. What We Do: Soil and Water Conservation Districts are located in each county and borough throughout New York State. They coordinate and implement natural resource and environmental programs at the local level in cooperation with state and federal agencies such as the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service. Since 1940 the Schuyler County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD or the District) has been working to address natural resource issues in Schuyler County such as water quality, soil erosion and nutrient management. This website will highlight many of the District programs and provide useful information for Schuyler County residents about our County and our region’s natural resources. EQUIPMENT RENTAL AGREEMENTSFor more information on rental rates and liability coverage required, please see our Rental Equipment and Products page under the "Services" section of our webpage.
Manure Management Video, Courtesy of Jefferson County SWCD
In the fall of 2015 the board and staff of the Jefferson County SWCD decided that there was a need for a Manure Management video to help the general public understand what today’s dairy farmers do on a day to day basis to manage manure and protect the environment. The video showcases how our farmers are environmental stewards from the time the cows produce the manure until the crops are harvested. Funding for this project was provided by the NYS Soil and Water Conservation Committee and by the Finger Lakes – Lake Ontario Watershed Protection Alliance (FLLOWPA) through the NYS Environmental Protection Fund.
